For the second straight year, I joined Ted and Darcy, in the Symphony of Lights 5k race in Clinton, Iowa. The weather was beautiful for this afternoon race. I was slower than last year, and had to walk some of the uphills. I finished 4th in the F45-49 age group – way behind 3rd. Ted finished 6th overall, and 1st in M40-44. Here he is receiving his medal from Miss Clinton.
It was dark by the time the awards ceremony was over, so we got to view the beautiful light displays on the way to our cars. Darcy’s folks fed us afterwards. I had a great time, well except when I ended up in Camanche after missing the sign for Route 30. I think it was missing in both directions! But I made it back to Davenport safely without having to call for assistance.
Front and Center
Chuck sent Eliza, Roger’s mother, a holiday center piece. The table was too full of food to display it properly on Thanksgiving Day, but it was much admired after the feast was consumed.
On Friday, Dorothy, Valerie’s mother, and Eliza posed in front of the stuffed animal tree. This was at the Festival of Trees in Davenport, Iowa. Roger squired the moms around while I sat outside and enjoyed the sunny day.

Turkey Trottin’
Bruce got up early and went to the Krispie Kreme for my pre-race meal. Two donuts and a banana later, and I was ready to go run in the Turkey Trot 5 mile race. This year, my goal was 45 minutes.
I got there early, and I helped scan the timinig chips to verify the information on them after they were handed out. I chatted with Jeff, the timing contractor, and we both expressed our interest in having a Dodge Sprinter for a timing vehicle. Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?
Roger and mom came to Van DeVeer park (about 2 miles into the race) to watch me run by. Mom visited the wooden bird first.
I ran by right around the time I predicted, but faded after that, finishing in 45:18. Despite not reaching my time goal, I can’t remember a more perfect day for a run.
Cooper
Cooper joined us for Thanksgiving. He is Bruce and Connie’s new dog – a rescue dog, mixed breed, about 5 years old. He is allergic to most foods. No table scraps allowed. He sat quietly under the table during dinner and did not beg. He was a pretty good dog in my book – he didn’t bark, and he was not too hyperactive.

Wyoming/Colorado Trip
I flew into Denver, Colorado on August 13 and spent the night near the airport. The next morning, I met Sandy at the airport, we picked up the rental car, and we headed for Laramie, Wyoming. My first event was the US Night-O Championships on my birthday. I didn’t do as well as last year, earned silver this year, but I had fun. The next day was a sprint race as a fundraiser for the US Team. I provided a birthday sheet cake which was served out of the back of my rental SUV. After a couple of more days, Sandy, Clem, and I drove to Lake George, Colorado. We stayed at the M Lazy C Ranch about 5 miles from Lake George, CO. Had the use of the Prospector cabin – kitchen facilities allowed us to eat three pasta dinners instead of eating out. The week finished with the US Championships.
I used my Garmin Forerunner 205 to track my routes around the courses.
Here are my routes:
US Night-O Championships Green – The Lights of Cheyenne
US Team Fundraiser Sprint – Gates of AMT Hell
Crystal Relay Leg 3 – Antenna Hill
Middle Distance A Meet Green – First with the Most
US Championships Day 1 Green – Buena Vista
US Championships Day 2 Green – The Big Sandy
Three AmiGals
From the left: Valerie, Peggy, and Kris before the DC Diet adventure race. The event was unsupported, no fee, no awards, etc., but an excellent time was had by all! My only complaint was that it was advertised as around 29 miles, but it actually was closer to 40, though 2 of the miles were on the metro train. We covered the distance on foot, canoe, bike, and metro.
