Post Christmas visit with Lailah, Sarah and Matt

I picked up Lailah in Annapolis this morning to spend some time with her, along with giving Sarah and Matt some free time to run errands or whatever. Lailah was very serious today, probably recovering from the busy holiday season. We stopped at the pet store on the way to the house and looked at the animals, and then it was home to play on the train set.

Later, Lailah was happy to have some chocolate pudding, and to see her mother.

The timing of this visit was strategically planned for the day before I left for New Zealand, in the hopes of distracting me from the pre-trip anxiety. It mostly worked, and it was an excellent visit as well.

Sarah and I went for a run this morning. I wouldn’t have done anything today if she hadn’t made the suggestion. I have to get out of this rut of only exercising once per week, if that much. The U.S. Orienteering Championships are in two months. Am I going to get into competitive shape, or not?

Sarah was frustrated because she didn’t feel as fit as she had a few weeks ago. I could really relate.

Wheaton Orienteering Meet Sarah

sarah_omeetheidi_epunchSarah met me at the Wheaton Regional Park orienteering meet today. We went out on an Orange course together – very challenging because I was gabbing so much, I often lost track of where we were. Luckily, Wheaton is a park with many trails, fields, a lake, etc., so I could easily relocate. We took a ride down a slide when a playground was on the way to a control. Too bad the miniature train wasn’t running! Many thanks to Sarah for joining me.

Heidi handled the electronic punching very capably in my absence. It was her first time, and she did great! Thank you Heidi (and David for setting an excellent course).

Sarah’s Quilt goes home

sarah quiltsarah livingroomWhen Sarah was 10, I told her I would make her any quilt she wanted. She decided she would like a Double Wedding Ring quilt and picked the black ivy print as the background. Okay, so the DWR is a pretty difficult quilt, especially when you only do it in spurts – I kept having to relearn how to piece the curves correctly. Anyway, I worked on it on and off for eight years and finished it about 6 years ago. It went to its proud new (home) owner on Sunday – Sarah and her new condo in Rockville.
