The last month of the year is here already – time to roll out the December calendar quilt for Janet. This is another Piecemakers pattern.

Calendar Quilt – November
Rainbow quilt returns home!
I made this quilt top 10+ years ago from some of the first fabric packs I bought. I worked on it by hand while Roger was in the hospital. When I got stuck on finishing it, I donated it to the local quilt group I belong to. It was bought by Diane H.
About a year ago, I started wishing I had the quilt back. So, a couple of weeks ago, I emailed Diane and asked her if she was willing to sell it back to me. Here was her response: “I’ve had a feeling all along that someday you were going to be sorry that you let go of that great quilt top. I’d started to draw out a quilting design for it (only on paper, not on the quilt) but something made me set it aside. It is really your quilt & yes, you are welcome to it. I have already gotten a lot of enjoyment out of just looking at it pinned up on my design wall every so often.”
I picked it up at the quilting bee. Diane has suggested a way to quilt it, and I believe I will give it a try. I am very grateful for Diane’s generosity.
Chieko visits Arlington!
Arlington County Fair opens Thursday
In honor of the Arlington County (Virginia) Fair which opens on Thursday, here are two quilts from previous fairs. This one shows the types of competitive exhibits and was on the front of the fair book in 2002. It was initially exhibited in 2000. It is machine applique and machine quilted. Though a fairly simple concept, I proudly consider it one of my few original ideas.
Okay, I posted a small portion of this quilt in the Quilts category header – now the entire thing… It was made from kits from The Country Quilter in Somers, NY. After many attempts, this lighthouse quilt earned me Grand Champion of the Art Needlework Division in 2002. I finally beat out the lady who won every year with her “pulled thread” pieces.
I’ll post a better picture of the quilt once I get the pictures scanned.
Sarah’s Quilt goes home
When Sarah was 10, I told her I would make her any quilt she wanted. She decided she would like a Double Wedding Ring quilt and picked the black ivy print as the background. Okay, so the DWR is a pretty difficult quilt, especially when you only do it in spurts – I kept having to relearn how to piece the curves correctly. Anyway, I worked on it on and off for eight years and finished it about 6 years ago. It went to its proud new (home) owner on Sunday – Sarah and her new condo in Rockville.
