Day 6: Loch Ordie (4.5 km 170 m climb 14 controls 136:24)
This was the closest I got to “working” the download this week. It was nice to be at an event that I did not have any responsibilities except getting to the start on time and finding all of my controls.
This turned out to be my least favorite map, and my worst day of orienteering, but I found them all, and I didn’t get hurt – my major requirements for the day. Though, the finding them all part was touch and go at times…
The terrain was very physical, and the parts which were not covered with heather (the green stuff on the hillside) were covered with muck. I was glad that I had taped my ankle.
The walk to the start was difficult, especially a short steep part which frightened me, and I did on my hands and knees. But, the scene at the top was worth it.
I found #2 before #1, then had major issues finding #6. After mostly deciding to quit, and heading somewhat in the direction of the finish, I found #11. I continued towards the finish for a little bit, but then I decided that I didn’t want to end the week with a DNF. So, I headed back to get the rest of the controls.
I collected my souvenir slate coaster after I downloaded.
I finished 76/78 today and 67/84 in W50L for the week.
Sandy finishing. She placed 26/68 for the week on W55L.
Full circle.
