Thanksgiving in Iowa – Part 2

Slippery day. Roger, Lailah and I went to the museum. Lots of good hands on science stuff to do.

Then later, Lailah and I did the loop to the bike trail and back, this time at least riding 5 feet on the trail before turning back for home. Lots of work for Grammy pushing Lailah and bike back of up the hill, hitting all of the snowy grass patches in order to make tracks.

Also checked out some of the jewelry collection.

A visit from Mom

My mother (Dorothy) came to “visit” this weekend since Roger is away. Don’t get me wrong, she likes seeing Roger, but I think she likes having a crack at organizing, cleaning and paring down our clutter even more. She worked me like a dog the last two days cleaning out closets, and even degreasing the stove. I was all for getting a new stove, but NO, we had to clean this one.

She went away with a carload of stuff for the thrift store, as well as about 30 towels for the vet’s office. She wanted a crack at recycling Roger’s boxes of papers, but I had enough and started whining. Man, she is a dynamo at 73. I am pretty sure I will never have that much energy. Well, at least not for cleaning. Thanks, mom!!

Old wine

I did a bit of house cleaning today, and I was reminded about what Roger’s brother found while cleaning their basement before Thanksgiving…some very aged wine. Roger had brought it home while he was in the Navy. I don’t think we will open the white, but it may be interesting to see if the bottle of red from 1968 is at all drinkable.

Front and Center

eliza_centerpiecedorothy_elizaChuck sent Eliza, Roger’s mother, a holiday center piece. The table was too full of food to display it properly on Thanksgiving Day, but it was much admired after the feast was consumed.

On Friday, Dorothy, Valerie’s mother, and Eliza posed in front of the stuffed animal tree. This was at the Festival of Trees in Davenport, Iowa. Roger squired the moms around while I sat outside and enjoyed the sunny day.
